Maryland really needed to shake off their eight goal loss to Duke over the weekend, and they were given the perfect opportunity this afternoon against the mediocre Providence Friars. This game was a big mismatch, and it showed in the way the Terps were able to control the ball throughout the game as they easily won 13-5. The Terps were led once again by standout freshman, Travis Reed who scored three goals. Ryan Young and Scott Tompkins each scored twice.

Although the Terps men's lacrosse team looks very talented this year, they were crushed by Duke yesterday by a score of 15-7. It is worrisome to see a team get dominated through all four quarters of a game. Granted that Duke has a great team this year, but to lose to a rival by eight goals is unacceptable. The Terps were completely dominated from beginning to end. What really is strange about this blowout loss is that Maryland knocked off a very talented Georgetown team last week, but could barely keep up with Duke in the first quarter.

After being dominated last year at home, the Terps have a chance at redemption to knock off the number two ranked Blue Devils later on today. However, this will not be a simple task. Duke has displayed a very impressive offense in its first two games. They routed Bucknell and Vermont by scoring a total of 35 goals in their first two games. Duke is led by stellar seniors, Matt Danowski, who was the 2007 National Player of the Year, and All-American, Zack Greer. Considering that this duo combined for 11 points in last season's meeting, it will be key to keep these two stars in check.
