The Terps regular season ended with a 91-76 loss in Charlottesville, VA to an emotional Virginia Cavaliers squad that was honoring team captain and point guard Sean Singletary. Singletary joined Curtis Staples as one of two Cavaliers to have his jersey retired. He demonstrated why he was worthy of such an honor, as seemingly every Cavalier basket involved the senior. He led the Cavs with 27 points, becoming the 39th player in ACC history to score 2,000 points. But enough with him, and onto the enigma that is the Terps.

Maryland senior forward Crystal Langhorne was named the ACC Women's Player of the Year in a vote of 49 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Langhorne received 23 votes, Erlana Larkins of UNC received 12, and Langhorne's teammate Kristi Toliver received 8 votes. Langhorne averaged 16.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg, and had 12 double doubles this season. She is one of nine players in ACC history to be named First-Team All ACC three times, and after this season is Maryland women's basketball's all time leading scorer and rebounder.

With 11 minutes left in tonight's contest between the Terps and Clemson Tigers, an ordinary observer would put another W in the Terps' column and begin asking questions about their NCAA Tournament seeding. Diehard Maryland followers knew better. Terrence Oglesby capped a furious 31-11 run by the Tigers with a contested 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left to give the Tigers a 73-70 advantage, which they would end up winning by.

Senior Night in College Park will be a big evening for the Terps, both as a program and for this team. Departing senior James Gist has at times this season carried this young Terps team. In the past, he's been a quiet guy with big-time athleticism; that has changed this season, in dramatic fashion. Gist addressed the team before their win at Wake Forest on Thursday, in part because Gary Williams lost his voice, and in part because he felt it was his role as the elder statesman of the team.

The Terps took down Wake Forest 74-70 tonight at Wake, a big win considering coming into the game the Deacs had only lost 1 game at home all season, putting this season among the all-time best at home for Wake. James Gist led the Terps with a career high 31 points and 11 boards. What was particularly impressive about Gist was his FT shooting tonight: his 10-12 was really important because the Terps kept the game close with 20 turnovers, including 6 from Hayes, but more on that later. Gist poured in 18 in the first half, including 3 for 3 from behind the arc.

Tonight the Terps head south to Winston-Salem, N.C. where they'll be taking on a Demon Deacons squad that is building momentum with wins in 3 of their last 4 games, including an upset at home over #2 Duke, 89-73. Forward James Johnson and freshman guard Jeff Teague have been playing particularly well, with both often leading the Deacs in scoring their past few games. The wins in their streak include an 80-64 win over Virginia, a hard-fought 78-70 win at FSU, and the upset over Duke.
